Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts. What is the game all about?

Company of Heroes

Not so long ago the manufacturer released the long-awaited update, which involves 2 story campaigns. Now participation in World War II can be not only for the USA, but also for Britain and Germany. Players often talk about how the Germans don’t have enough equipment, while the British are just unlucky. But if your hands and fingers are all right, there shouldn’t be any problems.

The game’s plot

For the Germans, the operation is called “The Orchard”. There are 8 missions, where the beginning in September 1944. The player takes command over the Leer group, which must undergo a drill. Germany often complains that the exercises are attended by old men and young men who have never seen weapons. That said, the enemy is pouring in from the sky and is very active. Squads have to operate anti-aircraft weapons and shoot down planes. The main task is to repel the attack on Wolfheze.

Liberation of Caen

For Britain, the campaign begins in 1944 as well. The Allies need to liberate the city, as the Germans can quickly disperse their troops in various directions through Caen. It all starts with a convoy of British equipment moving along the road, but runs into an ambush by the Germans. Lots of dead, lots of reconnaissance charges. But Britain has tanks, has something to fight with. But many are confused by the fact that there are many English and Scots in Britain’s ranks, which interferes with the voiceover.

Graphics

Of course, as the game is old, the cutscenes don’t feature a good picture. But the gameplay itself is virtually unchallenging. Everything is detailed and realistic, buildings are smashed and fences are broken.

Gameplay

The initial missions are easy enough, but as time goes on things don’t get quite as simple and transparent. You have to make swift decisions, put up roadblocks or mines. Sometimes you have to bombard houses with enemy snipers.

Often everything that happens is very satisfying, for example, when enemy vehicles driving straight at the player get hit by allied artillery. Tank battles are also very interesting, but more often than not it’s all about getting into the rear.

But the more complex missions show who’s who. There won’t be a full escort throughout the game. After the tutorial, there will be some tough combat. After that, a map with a new mission and onward.  So the timing of the mission is up to the player.
